Special Session on Intelligent Computing for Smart Cities and IoT
Introduction:
The rapid urbanization of the 21st century, coupled with the proliferation of low-cost sensing and connectivity, has positioned smart cities and the Internet of Things (IoT) at the center of modern engineering innovation. Intelligent computing paradigms — including edge/fog computing, machine learning, swarm intelligence, and digital twin technologies — are increasingly being embedded into urban infrastructure to manage traffic, energy, water, waste, healthcare, and public safety systems in real time. Yet the scale, heterogeneity, and criticality of these deployments raise pressing challenges in scalability, interoperability, energy efficiency, data privacy, and system resilience. This special session invites original research, applied case studies, and position papers that advance intelligent computing techniques for smart city and IoT ecosystems, with an emphasis on solutions that are efficient, scalable, and secure — directly reflecting the conference's core theme of Intelligent and Secure Engineering Solutions.
Smart cities represent one of the most tangible and high-impact application domains for intelligent engineering, touching millions of citizens through transportation, utilities, and public services. At the same time, the dense interconnection of IoT devices across urban infrastructure creates a large and often under-secured attack surface, making resilience and trustworthiness as important as intelligence itself. This special session complements the conference's broader focus by providing a dedicated venue for:
• Deployable intelligent computing solutions for real-world urban and IoT systems.
• Architectures that balance computational intelligence with energy, latency, and bandwidth constraints at the edge.
• Research bridging smart city applications with the security and reliability concerns central to the conference theme.

Recent advances in Generative AI, Edge AI, Digital Twins, Federated Learning, and Explainable AI have significantly transformed smart city applications.
